Must See: “Primadonna”- Marina and the Diamonds

This is too good to be true. Marina and the Diamonds’ “Primadonna” simultaneously celebrates and slams celebrity, self-obsession, and materialism in 3 mins and 58 seconds. And it’s set to the prettiest beat. You heard it here: beats can be pretty. Marina’s “Primadonna Girl” is the long overdue (dare I say: feminist) response to Madonna’s “Material Girl.” No less dancy. A lot more self-reflective. Don’t believe me? Electra Heart is quickly shaping up to be my favorite record of 2012–with the exception of “Fear and Loathing,” of course.  Thankfully Marina hasn’t lost her edge. No sophomore slump, for sure. Also, … Continue reading Must See: “Primadonna”- Marina and the Diamonds

Madonna Walks Like an Egyptian (Vogues) at the Super Bowl

We get it: Madonna is the Queen of the Super Bowl Pop–or by the looks of this costume, She-Ra. The “Material Girl” lived up to her nickname with a half time “perfomance” (again, lots of wobbly walking) that amounted to an ostentacious show of wealth but not of talent. She lip-synched for her life and for world peace, apparently. Have a look: The highlight of Madonna’s smug-off with herself came from someone else. (Gasp!) M.I.A. flipped off the cameras! Madonna Knows She’s Not in the NFL, right?

I’m not making a dementia joke (because Madonna is old). I think preparing for the much buzzed about Super Bowel (typo stays) performance this Sunday has gone to her head. As the video for Madonna’s single “Give Me All Your Luvin,” which features M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj rapping (for approximately 15 seconds each), suggests, clearly the woman is delusional. She must think this is a good look/sound.  I do not.   Can I just ask you all a question? What is this wearing fingerless gloves thing? Last time I checked, Madonna is not Karl Lagerfeld. She can’t possibly think that … Continue reading Madonna Knows She’s Not in the NFL, right?
