We Saw Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas Live on a Tuesday Night

Last night, your intrepid Editor at Large and his friend saw Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas play live at Ottobar. Yes it was a Tuesday night. Yes we had work the next morning. But no, we’re not sorry. And that’s even after a torturous 30 minutes of watching Cara Kelly of Cara Kelly and the Tell Tale,… We Saw Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas Live on a Tuesday Night was originally published on Rhyme et Reason Continue reading We Saw Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas Live on a Tuesday Night

After “Flamingo” Brandon Flowers Blooms

This past May Brandon Flowers, The Killers frontman (duh!), released his second solo album. It’s title, The Desired Effect, suggests that even he knew his debut, Flamingo, was a little disappointing. Excluding the collaborations with Jenny Lewis, obviously. Even though lyrically Flowers returns to a lot of themes you’d expect on a Killers album–love, religion, crime, the heartland,… After “Flamingo” Brandon Flowers Blooms was originally published on Rhyme et Reason Continue reading After “Flamingo” Brandon Flowers Blooms

Jenny Lewis’s New Video Is Heavy on the Nostalgia

Before being an indie rock goddess, Jenny Lewis was a mortal child actor. You may not realize it, but if you were an 80s/early 90s kid Lewis was probably in your favorite movie or television show. Go and check! In the video for “She’s Not Me,” a Clapton-y Fleetwood Mac-y number on The Voyager, Lewis and some incredible guest stars revisit some of her most famous roles.Thank god we got a nod to “Troop Beverly Hills”.  Vanessa Bayer as Phyllis Nefler is pretty much the best casting in the history of casting. The video also features Zosia Mamet (of GIRLS fame), Feist, Fred … Continue reading Jenny Lewis’s New Video Is Heavy on the Nostalgia

Memoryhouse is no Rilo Kiley…

But you sure wouldn’t know it if you listened to their song “The Kids Were Wrong” from the forthcoming The Slideshow Effect (below).   It sounds suspiciously like Rilo Kiley‘s song “Spectacular Views” from 2002’s The Execution of All Things. Have the indie darlings du jour sampled the original indie darlings and not told anyone? Doubtful. Too busy being sleepy and introspective, I imagine. Let’s call a spade a spade. Memoryhouse ripped off Rilo Kiley. Don’t believe me?  Listen: and   Notice anything? Yes, I know Memoryhouse’s lead singer Denise Nouvion can’t hold a flame to Jenny Lewis. (I’ve seen … Continue reading Memoryhouse is no Rilo Kiley…

have-you-heard-sday?- “silver lining (recordist mix)”- rilo kiley

“silver lining” is my favorite song from rilo kiley’s 2007 release under the black light.  while much of the album is disco (no complaints there) “silver lining” is just the right mix of pop, rock, country and church house soul.  but with the recordist remix all of that’s changed.  i never thought rilo kiley’s sound would translate to the club.  but it doesssss… 04_Silver_Lining_(Recordist_Mix).m4a Listen on Posterous who knew?    god i wish they would get back in the studio already.   -osea Continue reading have-you-heard-sday?- “silver lining (recordist mix)”- rilo kiley
