One of few things E3 has delighted me with this year a trailer release of the upcoming 3DS Kingdom Hearts game. The series looks like it’s finally coming to a head with this next title, but the real finale is still yet to come with many people waiting for what they hope will be a PS3 release in a few years. But for now, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will have to sate our appetites.
With both recurring and many new faces seen in the trailer, I think this next installment will have a lot of surprises for us as far as the story, style, and gameplay goes. Dream Drop Distance is about Sora and Riku being summoned by King Mickey and Yen Sid to undergo the Mark of Mastery exam so they can truly become Keyblade Masters. They are sent into the Sleeping Worlds, where they encounter new enemies and dangers that I can’t wait to face. KH3D:DDD sets the stage and hopefully will clean up some confusing parts of the story, so that we can dive into the game that will follow.
Not to mention that the game will also feature Augmented Reality functions using the 3DS camera, which to me is the most intriguing thing about Nintendo’s 3D handheld and I wish more games would utilize it! I haven’t missed a Kingdom Hearts game before, and I don’t plan on starting now. KH3D:DDD has already been released in Japan, and comes to the U.S. on July 31st–I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some sort of special edition 3DS, but if not you’ll still see me standing in line to get my hands on a game that plunges me into nostalgia time and time again.
