Mindy Kaling’s book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) is a hilarious book of things that Mindy Kaling thinks. Some of it is about her life as an androgynous Indian child and some of it is about what it’s like to work for that popular television series you might have heard of called The Office. Just reading the names she could have gone with instead of the title that she chose for the book had me laughing out loud.
This book is definitely recommended if you already follow Mindy on Twitter (and if that’s the case, you should already own it) or if you like memoirs by comediennes. This falls in the same category of last year’s Bossypants by Tina Fey or Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler. It’s honest and to the point. It’s written in short chapters about random parts of her life, observations, or predictions.
My favorite part was her discussing her dating problems. That and the guide for guys to dress properly. It seems that this could be enormously helpful to guys who dress like slobs just because they can get away with it, and then wonder why they’re having difficulty attracting mates. There’s no need, fellas. Just buy a peacoat and read this book and your problems will vanish.
