Florence + the Machine live at Merriweather

The other day, we (the Editor at Large and I, amongst friends and many others) got to see the magnificent Florence + the Machine at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The lines were long and the audience got high…by jumping.

The lights that lit up the back of the set changed colors and showed Florence, in a flowing dress, presented as a silhouette as if she was in an Aubrey Beardsley illustration.

Her mystical and musical presentation focused mostly on Ceremonials – her latest release. The weather was chilly but the atmosphere was warm with appreciation for Welch’s booming vocals on songs that could have flopped very easily. The Maccabees and The Weeknd opened pretty strongly but were completely overshadowed by the glorious performance by Welch.

If you had reservations about seeing her live, get past that. She is amazing and we can’t wait for her to come back to Merry-land.

Her setlist:

Only If for a Night
Drumming Song
Cosmic Love
Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
Spectrum
Heartlines
Leave My Body
Lover to Lover
Breath Of Life (from the soundtrack for Snow White & the Huntsman)
Shake It Out
No Light, No Light

Encore:
What the Water Gave Me
Dog Days Are Over
