And — and so we — we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, can you help us find folks? And I brought us whole binders full of — of women. I was proud of the fact that after I staffed my cabinet and my senior staff that the University of New York in Albany did a survey of all 50 states and concluded that mine had more women in senior leadership positions than any other state in America.”
The above QUOTE comes from former governor Mitt(ens) Romney himself in an NPR transcript of the 2nd Presidential debate this past Tuesday evening; emphasis my own. Much ado has been made about his “binders full of women” comment. And understandably! Here Mitt unwittingly revealed how he really feels about women–and also, curiously, affirmative action.
The logic goes: women are objects to be placed on shelves high enough to be admired. They don’t need silly things like reproductive rights! (Well, ok, maybe just contraceptives.) Certainly not equal pay! Definitely not flex-time at work!
I wonder how the “The Woman for Romney” would feel!
This is just another in the seemingly endless number of blunders from Romney. We can surely expect to see a few more before this campaign cycle is through. That he’s a serious contender for the U.S. Presidency is really quite astounding–absurd, too.
The only good I see in this is that it highlights how little Romney cares about women, and quite succinctly, it will give President Obama a bump in the polls, and it birthed this hilarious tumblr!
